TORONTO, ONTARIO – FEBRUARY 24, 2011
SkyPower Limited, Canada’s leading solar energy company and its wholly owned subsidiaries, are pleased to announce its award of 13 new power purchase contracts under Ontario’s Feed-in-Tariff Program (FIT), totalling 148.3 MW of energy capacity.
The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) announced the successful awards for connections and contracts under the FIT program for new renewable generation capacity in Ontario.
“SkyPower is pleased with the government’s continued commitment to clean renewable energy as is evident by today’s announcement of the Feed-in Tariff contract awards. The Ontario Government’s Long-Term Energy Plan provides a road map for moving to cleaner forms of energy and as a catalyst for substantial job creation and investment,” said Kerry Adler, President and Chief Executive Officer, “We applaud Ontario for showing global leadership in its dedication to the economic and environmental benefits of green energy”.
SkyPower will build, finance, own and operate each of the 13 solar parks on purchased or leased land. A full list of the projects, size and location can be found at www.skypower.com. Additionally, each project has its own website and links to each can be found at the same location. The solar projects are located across Ontario and will each occupy between 75-100 acres of land.
With the awarding of these FIT contracts, each of SkyPower’s projects will have the capacity to produce enough energy to power approximately 1,000 homes per year or a total of 13,000 homes per year each year for the next 20 years. If successfully brought to commercial operation, the projects will potentially create thousands of new green energy jobs and capital.
