SkyPower Hosts Solar Leaders in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA – SEPTEMBER 9, 2013

SkyPower is proud to sponsor a networking event that brings high ranking players from the global solar industry together in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s capital city of Riyadh to discuss key solar related issues in the region. This event precedes, the second-annual PV Briefing and Networking Forum that was organized in Riydah by Joint Forces for Solar, the global alliance of stakeholders in the solar business.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has been a hotspot for renewable energy investments since the announcement of their ambitious 54 GW renewable energy program – the largest target the world has ever seen. The solar portion of the KSA’s renewable target – 41 GW by 2032 – has the solar industry in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region excited about the possibilities.

“SkyPower remains committed to helping the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia diversify its energy mix and meet the solar PV capacity target of 41 GW by 2032,” said Kerry Adler, President and CEO of SkyPower. “The renewable target is very ambitious and is definitely something that SkyPower can help the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia work towards and achieve.”

As an OPEC-founding country, the KSA is taking various initiatives to move towards becoming a more renewable-energy based country. By focusing on generating clean electricity, the Kingdom can move away from a reliance on domestic consumption of fossil fuels for electricity and use the saved resources to strengthen its exports. The KSA’s solar program will also help spawn thousands of direct and indirect local jobs, decrease Saudi Arabia’s carbon footprint through the reduction of CO2 emissions, and create a greener future for generations to come.
